Abstract
Abstract
Introduction: This research employs a systematic review to identify relevant works and previous studies, with the aim of examining the evolution of process improvement research within the field of process mining in organizations from its inception to the present. Evaluating the methodologies employed in prior research can significantly contribute to advancing effective studies in this area.
Methods: For this research, the systematic review methodology proposed by Boland, Dickson, and Cherry, comprising three primary and eight secondary stages, was adopted. The three primary stages are: planning, conducting the systematic review, and reporting the systematic review. In the planning stage, the criteria provided by Okoli and Schabram were utilized. During the systematic review stage, 343 articles were identified from various databases. Ultimately, based on the criteria established in the planning stage, 28 articles were selected for further examination and evaluation.
Findings: This research comprehensively identifies the tools and approaches employed in the studies. Each study utilized appropriate instruments for identifying problems and implementing improvements, and the resulting findings demonstrate a positive impact of these tools on overall organizational performance. The reviewed studies demonstrate that improving organizational performance through various methods, and reporting both quantitative and qualitative results, was the primary objective. While differences exist in scope, methodology, and scale, all studies emphasize the importance of process improvement in achieving organizational goals. Variations in results are attributed to differences in context, methods, and studied variables. These differences provide opportunities for researchers to compare and analyze findings, enhancing their understanding of process improvement across diverse contexts. Research methods employed varied from statistical analysis, interviews, and process modeling and simulation to literature reviews. This diversity highlights the complexity and multifaceted nature of organizational process improvement. Some studies emphasize the role of information technology and learning organizations, while others address challenges in smaller organizations or critically analyze common beliefs.
Results and Discussion: In conclusion, diverse research approaches, including technique-focused studies, systematic reviews, and literature reviews, have contributed to identifying and resolving organizational process problems, leading to significant improvements. The utilization of information technology, fostering a culture of process improvement, and empowering employees are key success factors. This research shows that combining appropriate tools with literature review and analytical approaches can help organizations make better-informed decisions and improve their processes. These findings highlight the importance of continuous process improvement within organizations to achieve enhanced outcomes and overall performance.
Conclusions: Research demonstrates that employing diverse analytical tools facilitates the identification and resolution of organizational process issues. Tools such as simulation, questionnaires, interviews, qualitative and quantitative analysis, and continuous improvement techniques play a crucial role in enhancing organizational performance. These tools enable organizations to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness through accurate problem identification, the implementation of effective improvements, and the evaluation of results.
